I know seriously! Its so much more attention grabbing and vey different.

There's a simple reason:
It demonstrates a lack of mastery.Say for instance, if a person has been dancing for two years and they break, can do hiphop choreo style, popping, house, and (here's a random) swing. Chances are, they dont practice EACH ONE for 2 hours individually everyday. That's 10 hours of practice, for 2 years. that's 7000 hours of practice over 2 years.
Chances are, they pick and choose here and there what they feel like learning at the time. So say they still practice 2 hours a day, but instead rotate on different dance each day.
That's 280 hours of practice for EACH DANCE over a course of 2 years.
That is the most likely case in "Mixing styles".
If they stick to one dance, everyday, for 2hrs a day, after 2 years they'll have
1400 hrs of practicing that dance. The ability to dance through one song (particularly freestyled because that in essential in ANY hiphop dance) is KEY. The ability to stick to one style shows more and more mastery of that particular dance. Say for instance popping has over 20 different substyles (ie tutting, waving, gliding, robot, boogaloo, animation etc), it is MUCH MORE DIFFICULT for someone to do say only waving to a song, than it is for them to do some tuts, throw in a hit or two, a couple boogaloo moves, a few waves, some robot, a couple of isolation and centepede moves...
Get the picture yet?NOW!!!
If the person has been dancing for a longer period of time already (say 6 or 10 years) then they've had MUCH MORE time to develop their skills in any styles they choose. So I'd say THEN and ONLY THEN when they have done it for a long time and fully understand the dances they are doing, can they start to mix things.
There's a difference between mixing styles to create something new (when you have the SKILLS to back it up)...
and mixing styles simply because you havent danced long enough to know what to do next and how to get down with what you have.Invent

i kno i feel dat way too dawg.

It depends on the dancer. Are they dancing to compete within a certain style? Are they dancing for fun? DO they learn movements and play with them? Or do they systematically try to learn from a master dancer? Most dance styles are a combination of other styles. All styles overlap and intersect. THeres a huge range of music out there with various tempos and grooves and time signatures. So sticking to one style may serve you well if you control the playlist but if you want to ahve fun at any party you might want to learn all sorts of movements.
You can learn to dance like kung fu - and master one form (like tiger style) your whole life. Or watch a random robot mime performance on TV in the 70s and invent a new style of funk dancing. or find a balance. probly depends on your personality.

i think dance come from heart. And thats the reason you can mix every dance without limits...
-
invent is right....if u wanna have fun u could learn anotha styles foundation....but every1 has one style they either prefer or excel at.........
-
Ive been dancing for 10 plus I break pop and lock....but I excel and prefer popping....Im not a sorry breaker or locker eitha....I do have power n flava and I can do more than tha foundation moves but I just luv to pop more than ne thing

dif styles emphasize dif parts of the body. thats why salsa chicks all take belly dance.
some styles add foundation to learn other styles. its easier to learn juke if you know house. its easier to jit if you pop. its easier to punk if you lock. its easier to learn liquid if you already wave.
and its always good to learn roots. learning afro-cuban and samba can help your salsa (asp cali style)
the more body movements you learn the more fun you will have. when youre first learning - youre picking up root movements and how to throw your body weight around. after that its styling. thats were more creativity can come in.

ginsu...
that's exactly what people SHOULD do.
But a lot of people take a few elements from different styles and mix them all together under a different name, or the name of a style, because they simply lack the passion and will to really expand their dancing.
It someone too Belly dance to help with salsa that's cool.
But if they know 2 salsa steps, a little bit of belly dance, a couple of swing steps and a little wacking and mix it all together as "one" dance and call it salsa... that's a WHOLE different (and to me unacceptable) story...
