I've created Lyrical Dance in the DanceJam Dance Index. Please feel free to edit the description and add any videos you have.
If you have any other dances that you would like to see represented on DanceJam don't be shy to send me a shout-out!

I just wanted to know. For a long time i was wondering if there exsist any difference btw Jazz dance, Lyrical dance, Contemporary, Jazz-Modern n Modern Jazz. 8) Cause here in Europe (I'm from UKraine) we have Jazz, Jazz-Modern nn Contemporaty and it's not the same as in USA. I LOVE that style like on SYTYCD. But smt they wrote contamporary, and smt Lyrical. What is the difference? :)
Can someone HELP me plz n answer this question?

that's what great about dancing, for every style there is, in different countries their version of it is different, creating even more for us to do and learn. And in the US there is a difference in all of those styles. then there's the breakdowns, you can be traditional with each style, non traditional or you can do your own take on each style. The sky is the limit.

I'm totally agree. And that's great about it. But i still have this question, because i know some teachers in our Institute, and they argue all the time what is Lyrical, Lyrical JAzz, Jazz, Modern, Jazz-Modern n Contemporary... That's why i want to explore it :) and help some of my friends too. Because they confused :)

think of it like this, traditional would be anything with one name, lyrical for example would be more like ballet without pointe shoes and showing more emotions in your movement and face. lyrical jazz, where from most of research seems to actually be the original place where it began which was taking traditional jazz ex. being what you see at competitions very technique based, and adding the emotion to the movement while also breaking away from the strict sharp movement. Modern oh boy, yes there will always be arguing over this and contemporary. but modern is taking everything traditional and finding untraditional movement, contracting and releasing, alot of people word this wrong, they say not as technical but what they usually mean to say is not ballet technical or jazz technical in the traditional aspect. Don't be mistaken, every dance has technique. Contemporary is alot of people reffer to as the "Now" it's changing contanstly because it is what is now. but it's kind of like ballet, lyrical and modern all together with jazz as well, graceful though and quick alot of times., but there is those who have their own take on the styles, but I hope that is a good summary for you. Always learn as much about each, because, you would be hugely suprised how the definition of any style changes from country to country as well as here, you can say it changes somewhat from state to state. No particular one is right or wrong persay, remembering that they all come from the mother of the style or the traditional style branched out in variation.
